Oklahoma AFL-CIO President - Jimmy Curry

Jimmy Curry was first elected President of the Oklahoma AFL-CIO on November 21st, 1997, and has been re-elected every 4 years sense.  Prior to his election, he was the President of the North East Oklahoma  Labor Council and served for four years on the State AFL-CIO Executive Board.  He has been a member of the Transport Workers Union Local 514 of Tulsa, Oklahoma for over 30 years.  

Curry served as Labor Chairman of the Tulsa Area United Way for two years and is currently on the board for the United Way of Central Oklahoma.  In 1994, he received the "Rerum Novarum Award" by the Christ the Kind Center for Social Concerns.  He has been awarded several others honors and awards for his work to improve the lives of Oklahomans.


Jimmy Curry serves on several Boards including; the Advisory Council on Workers' Compensation, the Oklahoma Health Care Information Advisory Council, Oklahoma Workforce Development Council, among others.


Before his election, Curry was a FFA licensed aircraft mechanic for American Airlines in Tulsa.  He was born and raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics in 1978.  Jimmy Curry and his wife Deborah curretnly reside in Edmond.  

Debra Wojtek is the Communications Director for the Oklahoma AFL-CIO and has been since 2011.

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Debra attended public schools and graduated from Yukon High School.  During this time she began her community involvement through working for Pets and People Human Society and volunteering with numerous groups including Habitat for Humanity and other local groups to help those in her community.


After high school, Debra moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend college at Oklahoma State University and graduated from there in 2010 with a Bachelor of Business and Economics. 


After college Debra began working at Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 124 where her involvement in her Office of Professional Employees Union Local 381 sparked her desire to improve the workplace for Oklahomans and drove her to apply for the Oklahoma State AFL-CIO Communications Directors Position.  Through her position as Communications Director she has been involved with organizations dedicated to promoting civil and human rights.  Debra has been an active member of the Construction Industries Coalition, Building and Construction Trades, Oklahoma City Community Forum, and several community involvements including sitting on the Serving up Cures for MDA Fundraising Board as well as DAD’s (Day Against Diabetes) Fundraiser Board.  She graduated in the first class of the United Way of Central Oklahoma’s Board Serve Central Oklahoma Program and was given the opportunity to serve on the YWCA Oklahoma City Board.  Debra works every day to improve the lives of working Oklahomans.  

Communications Director - Debra Wojtek 

Christy Ferrell was born and raised in Oklahoma.  She has lived in Midwest City nearly her entire life.  A graduate from Midwest City High School, Christy also attended the Mid-Del Vo-Tech to learn office skills, such as computers and ten-key.  Through encouragement of her father, she applied and was hired for a position with the Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma (PFFO) in early 1990’s.  A few years later, with the help of a partial reimbursement program with the P.F.F.O. and her union contract, Christy finished college at Rose State Junior College with an Associates in Business Administration.

In March of 1999, Christy was hired by the Oklahoma State AFL-CIO as the Bookkeeper/Secretary, later incorporated into Executive Assistant.  Christy is a proud union member of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 381 since August 1995, where she has served as Trustee and currently as Vice President.
